چکیده

Abstract Chilling (Ch) and salinity (S) are challenging stresses affecting plant physiology, growth, productivity. The current study investigated the effects of these two stresses, singly in combination, on photosynthetic performance ultrastructure chloroplast faba beans ( Vicia L. Cv. Aspani). Plants were exposed to 3 °C 120 mM NaCl for 16 h an optimized soil mixture (sand:clay 2:1) under conditions. Results showed that both Ch S significantly reduced rates, F v / m , chlorophyll content, stomatal index, conductance. caused changes (swelling, ruptured envelopes, shrunk lamellae), while more deformation thylakoid membrane disorganization grana structure. However, there was antagonistic effect between x S. tolerance NaCl, present study, improved by exposure which rather allowed maintenance morphology stomata. Moreover, using SEM TEM gave effective insight ultrastructural damage cells stress helps consider underlying mechanisms effects. Our results suggest mitigates noxious plants.

Folate content in faba beans (Vicia faba L.)—effects of cultivar, maturity stage, industrial processing, and bioprocessing

Faba beans are an important source of folate and commonly consumed in Egypt. This study examined the effects of Egyptian industrial food processing (e.g., canning and freezing), germination, cultivar, and maturity stages on folate content, with the aim to develop a candidate functional canned faba bean food with increased folate content. The folate content in four cultivars of green faba beans ...

Susceptibility of Faba Bean (Vicia faba L.) to Heat Stress During Floral Development and Anthesis

Experiments were conducted over 2 years to quantify the response of faba bean (Vicia faba L.) to heat stress. Potted winter faba bean plants (cv. Wizard) were exposed to temperature treatments (18/10; 22/14; 26/18; 30/22; 34/26 °C day/night) for 5 days during floral development and anthesis. Developmental stages of all flowers were scored prior to stress, plants were grown in exclusion from ins...

EFFECT OF FLURIDONE ON PLANT DEVELOPMENT AND STRESS-INDUCED ABA ACCUMULATION IN Vicia Faba L. PLANTS

The effect of fluridone on the growth of plants and drought stressinduced abscisic acid (ABA) accumulation were studied in mature leaf tissue of Vicia faba L. plants grown under different light intensity. Drought stress was induced by allowing the leaves to lose 12% of fresh weight. Treatment of Vicia plants (grown at high light intensity – 600μmol.m-2.s-1) with 10μmoles fluridone caused a cons...

Enhancing faba bean (Vicia faba L.) genome resources

Grain legume improvement is currently impeded by a lack of genomic resources. The paucity of genome information for faba bean can be attributed to the intrinsic difficulties of assembling/annotating its giant (~13 Gb) genome. In order to address this challenge, RNA-sequencing analysis was performed on faba bean (cv. Wizard) leaves. Read alignment to the faba bean reference transcriptome identif...
